Swiss Grand Xianmen and It's Historical Environment

In the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties, National Hero Zheng Chenggong stationed his troops in Xiamen in order to fight against the Qing Dynasty and named Xiamen to Siming Zhou.

His troops were trained in the area of the Swiss Grand Xiamen and the nearby Zhougshan Road. Today, still many people living surrounding the Swiss Grand Xiamen are descendant of Zheng Chenggong's soldiers.

A massive statue of Zheng Chenggong was build on Gulangyu Island best seen from the Swiss Grand Xiamen opposite.

Centuris later the goddess of Peace, based on the Tang Dynasty, was build for the protection of Xiamen and faces directly the national hero and militarist Zheng Chenggong.

It is also Zheng Chenggong who invented a unique game played during the Mid-Autmn Festival to entertain his home-sick solders. Bobing, still played today by all residents of Xiamen is unique in China and enjoys great popularity.
